SHANNONSIDE FOOTBALL
Shannonside hosted Tralee Dynamos in the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday. The match was played in atrocious weather conditions which made good football nearly impossible. The home side started brighter and were unlucky not to take the lead when a shot from Darren Cavanagh was blocked after good work by John Hanlon and Andy Lane. Tralee struck the first blow when the home side lost possession in midfield and the away side broke away to make it 1-0. A second goal soon followed again caused by the home side losing possession. The second half began with Shannonside on the attack and keeping the ball a lot better. The home side claimed a penalty when Eoin O’Connor was, it was claimed, fouled but the referee waved play on. Try as they might the home side could not score despite the best efforts of the team. Team: Chris Hayes, Bobby Murphy, Eddie Cummins, Liam O’Donnell, Damien Fitzgibbon, John Hanlon, Andy Lane, Wayne Enright, Darren Cavanagh, Eoin O’Connor, Mike Behan. Subs (all used) Alan Moroney, Gary Clifford, Dave Dillane.
