SHANNONSIDE SOCCER
Shannonside 3; Rathkeale 1.
Shannonside hosted Rathkeale B in division one on Sunday morning in Barrigone Park. The home side started brightly and opened the scoring when Darren Kavanagh finished off a good move involving John Paul Mulvihill and Kieran Kavanagh. It was soon 2-0 when Andy Lane put Wayne Enright through on goal and he beat the keeper. Michael Behan added a third before the break pouncing on a mistake from the opposing keeper. Dave Dillane came on for Liam O’Donnell at half time. The second half was a different game with Rathkeale playing a lot better and putting the home side under considerable pressure. Dave Franklin came on for Wayne Enright. The Rathkeale pressure finally paid off when they pulled a goal back but it was too little too late and the home side held on for three points.
Team: Chris Hayes, John Hanlon, Liam O’Donnell, James Downey, Bobby Murphy, John Paul Mulvihill, Darren Kavanagh, Andy Lane, Wayne Enright, Kieran Kavanagh, Michael Behan. Subs: Dave Dillane, Dave Franklin, Eoin O’Connor.
Shannonside B 2; Carrig Celtic B 2.
Shannonside got their first points of the season when they played out an eventful two all draw away to Carrig. A poor first half display meant the away side were a goal down at half time. John Hayes came on early in the second half and a good move between Martin Fitz and Senol Yamac led to the equaliser from John Hayes. Declan Lane won a penalty and converted it himself. The away side were unfortunate to concede a last minute equaliser meaning the points were shared. Team: Keith Enright, Bob Moran, Kenneth Trinder, Steven Mernagh, Mel Devine, Martin Fitzgerald, Eoghan Lewis, Pat Connelly, Connie Ryan, Declan Lane, Senol Yamac. Subs: John Hayes, Ross Fitzsimons.

U/14 DIVISION 3
Shannonside FC 3; Newcastle Rovers 0.
Shannon FC got their season off to a great start with a 3-0 victory over Newcastle Rovers in Barrigone on Tuesday evening last. It was a dream start for the newly formed team from Shanagolden Foynes and despite a quiet second half performance the home side can be happy with the result. The home side were well on top in the first half with both defence and midfield coping well with goalkeeper Richard Hayes dealing with any danger from the visitors. Shannonside strike force Dale Fitzgerald and Florian Burns put the home side two up in the first twenty minutes and Fitzgerald scored a great individual goal to give the home side a 3-0 half time lead.
In the second half the visitors came more into the game and keeper Richard Hayes was much busier. Shannonside manager Peter Fitzgerald rang the changes in the second half and introduced Daragh Fennessy, Dale Danagher and Andrew Madigan. In the end the home side held out for a fine victory.
