LOCAL NEWS 9th September 2008

CARDS
THE winners of first prize with 10 games were Vinnie Wrenn and John Mulvihill. 2nd prize on 9 games was divided between Pat Hastings and Gerry Lenihan and John O’Malley and Josie Finucane. Table prize winners were Pat Hastings and Gerry Lenihan, Jim Dalton and Francis Woulfe and Jim Lynch and David O’Connor. Raffle prize winners were Bridie McManus, Vinnie Wrenn and Pat Hastings. The lottery ticket winners were Bridie McManus and Marie Wrenn. Cards continue every Friday night at 9.15pm. All are welcome.

LOTTERY RESULTS
There was no winner of the jackpot of €10,900 with the numbers drawn 3, 9, 18 and 22. The lucky dip winners were €50 Nora Dineen, Ardagh, €40 Tom Flynn, c/o Fitzsimons Printers, €30 Shauna and Lauren Buckley, Shanagolden, Mick Hennessy, Parkview, Shanagolden and Agatha Barrett, Athea. The ten free lottery tickets went to William Mulcahy. Next week’s jackpot will be €11,050.

ST. ITA’S COMMUNITY HOSPITAL
The Friends of St. Ita’s Community Hospital, wish to thank the collectors and everyone who contributed so generously to their recent church gate collection. The amount collected was €417.71, which will go towards Friends to St. Ita’s/Milford Hospice Support Unit at St. Ita’s Community, Hospital, Newcastle West.

SYMPATHY
The death took place during the week of Miss Mary O’Shaughnessy, Ballycormack, Shanagolden. Deepest sympathy is tendered to her brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and kind neighbours. Removal took place on Friday evening from St Senan’s Funeral Home, Shanagolden to St. Senan’s Church at 8pm. Burial took place in the local cemetery after 12 noon Mass. May she rest in peace.
The death took place on Friday of Mrs. Madge Behan (nee Quaid), Main Street, Shanagolden. Deepest sympathy is tendered to her sons, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Removal took place on Saturday evening from Madigan’s Funeral Home at 8.30pm to St. Senan’s Church, Shanagolden. Burial took place in the local cemetery after 12 noon Mass on Sunday. May she rest in peace.

TOUR TO GALWAY AND CONNEMARA
At 8.30am on Monday, September 8, it is all aboard from the Market Yard, Newcastle West, for a day coach tour to Galway City and the stunning scenery of Galway Bay and Connemara. This is a wonderful time of year to savour this experience, so give yourself a treat as autumn approaches. MILFORD FAIR
The 23rd Annual Harvest Fair will be held on Sunday, September 14 in aid of Milford Hospice. The Fair commences at 2pm in the grounds of Milford Hospice and your support is very much appreciated.

CRUISE
All are welcome to an enjoyable trip to see Ireland’s only fjord. In conjunction with same a coach will leave the Courtenay Lodge Hotel at 9am on Sunday, September 7 for this exciting Killary Cruise. PARENT SUPPORT PROGRAMME
The Parent Support Programme of Limerick Social Service Council, has recently opened an office in Abbeyfeale which will cover Abbeyfeale and surrounding districts. This is a structured programme which operates in partnership with the Health Service Executive and is aimed at enabling parents to enjoy and participate more fully in their child’s development and supporting parents in their role by encouragement, sharing experiences and information with other parents. Based in the Parish Office, Convent Street, Abbeyfeale, the programme can be contacted by phoning Mary Danaher at 068-31019.

MILFORD HOSPICE
Milford Hospice Fair, scheduled to take place this Sunday, has been deferred to Sunday, September 14. The change of date is due to the recent spell of bad weather which has left the grounds at Milford Care Centre in poor condition. The organisers of the event have apologised for the late change of date, but say that it was unavoidable, given the poor weather of recent weeks.

INTRODUCTION TO WOMEN’S STUDIES
An information evening relating to a new twelve week Introduction to Women’s Studies Programme to be held in a rural West Limerick location will take place on Tuesday, September 9 at 8pm in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West. This free adult-centred programme will take place one to two evenings per week this autumn and is open to all women, particularly those in rural areas, low income earners or women working full time in the home. ECDL
Fas, Newcastlewest will be running an ECDL and a Care Assistant course for people in receipt of social welfare payment in September. Further details from 069-66470.

SCHOOLS RE-OPENING
Many schools re-open this week after what was not a very impressive summer. We wish the best of luck to all students who are awaiting the junior certificate results shortly.

REILIG MHUIRE
The above committee are holding a meeting in the Hall, Askeaton on Tuesday, September 9 at 8.30pm. We urgently require new people to join our committee as there are very few people involved and we are finding it difficult to continue. We would, therefore, welcome anybody who is interested to join us on the night.
