CARDs NIGHT
FIRST prize with 10 games went to John Wall and Marie Wrenn with second prize on eight games to Tim Murphy and Tom Culhane. Table prize winners were Jim Dalton and Francis Woulfe and Peggy Lynch and Mai Naughton. The raffle winners were John O’Malley, Francis Woulfe, John Danaher, Bridie Moroney and Bridie McManus. The lottery ticket winners were Brid Guerin and Jim Lynch. Cards every Friday night at 9.15pm sharp. All welcome.

LOTTERY RESULTS

The card game at Ardagh Hall has resumed for the winter months on Tuesday nights with a 9.15pm start. All welcome.

A speedy recover is wished to Gerry Lenihan, Ballysteen, Askeaton who is in hospital at the moment. Best wishes to you Gerry from all the card players in Shanagolden hall on Friday nights. Hope to see you back again playing soon.

SYMPATHY
Deepest sympathy is tendered to Mrs. Breda Mulcair (nee Hanlon), Lismote, Kilfinny, Adare and formerly of Ballycormack, Shanagolden on the death of her husband Jim. Sympathy also to his family, friends and relations. May he rest in peace.

NATIONAL SCHOOL RETIREMENT
There was a very pleasant evening in Foynes National School on Thursday evening last to mark the retirement after 35 years of service in Foynes National School of Principal Marie Rohan. The evening began with Mass at St. Senan’s Church at 6.30pm and a huge crowd attended. Following the Mass, everybody returned to the school. The evening was organised by Foynes National School Parents Association and Patricia Lowes presented Marie with a painting from local artist Helen McMahon. In her speech Marie spoke about her years in teaching and how she spent all her time in Foynes National School.

WATERSIDE PARK FUND RAISING WINNERS
Foynes and District Community Council would like to thank all those who contributed to the fund raising campaign for the waterside park. Well done to all the winners.

CONCERT at FOYNES
There will be a special concert to raise funds for St. Ita’s Hospital in Newcastle West on Friday night, October 17. The Foynes Flying Boat Museum is the venue for the appearance of the Ickfield Birmingham Male Choir and tickets are €10.

SENIOR FOOTBALL
St. Senan’s senior football team bowed out of the championship at the semi-final stage in Newcastle West on Sunday afternoon last. St. Senan’s were defeated by last year’s beaten finalists Drom/Broadford by 0-12 to 1-6. The match was in the balance up until the final whistle and a poor second half performance had a lot to do with the defeat. However to reach the semi-final is a great achievement and the team have a lot to look forward to in the future.

SOCCER LOTTERY
Congratulations to Joanne O’Connor, Lissane, Askeaton who won the Shannonside FC lottery draw jackpot last week. Enda Healy was the ticket seller.

TRIP TO BLARNEY
The annual outing to the Blarney Woollen Mills, with a visit to Cork City (optional) from Newcastle West and district will take place on Tuesday, October 21. Coach will leave the Market Yard, Newcastle West at 9.45am. Immediate booking is advised as seating is limited. Contact either Ms. Nora Enright on 087-7453154 or Pat Dalton on 069-62306. ROAD CLOSURE
Limerick County Council has informed members of the public that the road from Ardagh Village to Reens will remain closed from Monday, October 6 to Saturday, October 18 at 7pm in order to facilitate an overlay from Ardagh Village to Reens. Local traffic will be accommodated and diversions will be clearly signposted.

DONEGAL TRIP
We will be going to Donegal on Sunday, March 1 and returning on Friday, March 6. We will be going to the Giants Causeway and Glenveagh National Park to name a few places and we will have a full day in Derry when we will visit the places that you have only heard of on the radio and television. LOURDES FASHION SHOW
The Gala West Limerick Fashion Show will be held at the Devon Inn in Templeglantine on Thursday, October 16. The show is in aid of the invalid section of the Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets will be available locally and at the door on the night.

IRISH RAMBLING HOUSE CONCERT
The Irish Rambling House Tour of Britain will take place from Thursday, October 30 to Monday, November 3. Prior to their departure this group will perform in concert at the school hall, Duagh, Co. Kerry on Saturday, October 18 at 8.15pm. Further details available from 087-2853570.

KILCOLMAN SCHOOL DANCE
Kilcolman National School fundraising dance will take place in the Shannon House, Foynes on Friday, October 17 at 9.30pm with music by Taylor’s Cross. Tickets €5 each. A special draw will take place on the night for anyone who bought tickets and will not be attending.

CONCERT TOUR OF IRELAND
The Comhaltas Concert Tour of Ireland ‘Macalla na hEireann’ will be visiting West Limerick on Tuesday, October 21 at 8pm sharp, where they will perform in Halla Tadhg Gaelach, Tournafulla. This year’s group features two artists from West Limerick, Eoin O’Sullivan from Tournafulla on banjo and Jacki O’Connor from Kilcolman as presenter/bean an ti of the tour, also on concertina. BRING STORIES TO LIFE
Designed to help parents explore methods of story telling and help young children develop an early interest in reading, these weekly sessions will take place from 10am to 11.30am each Friday in Newcastlewest until the end of October.
