Local notes 30th September 2009

CARDS
First and second prize divided by two pairs on 8 games each went to Mai Wall & Christy Lynch and Jack Woulfe & Mick Robinson. Table prizes went to John Wall & Marie Wrenn and Jim Dalton & James Bridgeman. Raffle winners were Marie Wrenn, Nancy Danagher, Pat Hastings, John Wall and Peg Mulvihill. Lottery ticket winners were Mai Wall and Vinnie Wrenn.

LOTTERY
The numbers were 6, 12, 20 & 24. There was no winner of the €5800 jackpot. The lucky dip winners were; €50 Moira McCarthy, Abbeyfeale; €40 Pat Mahony, Tournafulla; €30 each to Sean Kelly, Shanagolden, Donal Behan, Shanagolden, Mick Bolger, Shanagolden; 10 Free Tickets went to Mick O’Grady, Rathkeale. Next weeks jackpot will be €5,950.

WEST LIMERICK RESOURCES
West Limerick Resources will hold three information days for the recently and long term unemployed this September. The event will be attended by West Limerick Resources Renewable Employment Service, Jobs Club and volunteer support service along with a range of other local and national support organisations. The events will run from 4-8pm as follows:
Thursday, September 24, Community Hall, Adare.
Tuesday, September 29: Communtiy Centre, Foynes.

2 DAY INTENSIVE JOB SEEKERS COURSE
This Autumn, West Limerick Resources will be offering a 2-day intensive job seekers programme in a number of West Limerick locations. This free course will offer all aspects of job seeking skills and is open to long term and short term unemployed people. BADMINTON
Badminton takes place every Monday and Wednesday night in Foynes Community Centre from 8-10pm. Adults €4, Over 15’s €2. Male and Female beginners are welcome so come and enjoy for the competition and craic! For more details contact Anne on 061-398063.

KARATE
Karate resumes in Foynes Community Centre every Thursday, September 10 from 7-8pm.
ESTUARY RUGBY CLUB
Estuary Rugby Club is up and running for the new season and new underage players are welcome to join. Please attend sports field, Shanagolden on Sunday mornings at 10.30am.
The Club are holding a club development draw for the next six months to raise much needed funds. The first draw takes place in Shanagolden on September 26th. The first month prizes are Ireland v Wales and Munster European Cup tickets. For the following months there is a great selection of prizes.

ARDFERT RETREAT CENTRE

MONTHS MIND
The Months Mind Mass for the late Bridie Moroney, Mount David will be celebrated in St. Senan’s Church, Shanagolden on Friday, September 25 at 8pm.

ST. SENANS SOCIAL SERVICES
Glin Day Care Centre reopened on September 17 for the Foynes, Shanagolden and Askeaton groups. Bus pick ups at usual times. Contact 068-26033.

FOYNES & DISTRICT SEARCH AND RESCUE UNIT
Foynes and District Search and Rescue Unit is currently looking for volunteers to join and help with the setting up of the newly formed club. The club is hoping to gather names of people willing to train and become volunteers for the unit. NEWS FROM SALESIAN SECONDARY COLLEGE
Evening music classes are due to start at the school this week. Please forward your name and details to the school secretary at 061-393105. Traditional music sessions and choir practice have begun at the college.

SLOW FOOD CELEBRATION
Curraghchase Free Range Pork will have an open day on Sunday, 27th September. The day will include a vintage tractor display, bread making demonstrations, bee keeping, pig keeping, shorthorn cattle society talk and beef tasting and a master farrier will be at work. There will be a Tamworth pig spit roasted over aged beechwood and Shorthorn beef burgers roasted over charcoal served with local chutney and homemade bread. Freshly brewed Ponaire Coffee or Con Trass’s apple juice. Admission €5.

WEST LIMERICK 102FM
The next car boot sale and indoor market will take place at NCW Community Centre on Sunday, October 4. Forthcoming fundraising events include a sports quiz on Friday, October 2 and also a fashion show.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS
The Glorach Theatre will be the venue for a new programme of classes in piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, concert flute, traditional flute, tin whistle, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, drum kit, guitar, ballet, modern dance and music theatre being offered by Kerry School of Music. CALLING ALL BEETHOVEN FANS
The Autumn Music at Castleconnell Series has begun and every second Tuesday evening until December 8 the featured composer is Beethoven. The best of Irish music talent has been secured by Limerick County Arts office and the renowned Austrian Haydn Trio “Eisenstadt” will also perform. The venue is Castleconnell’s Church of All Saints and tickets are available at the door and from the Arts Office at 061-496498/496300.
