CARDS
First prize on eleven games went to Donie Donovan and James Bridgeman. Second prize divided by four pairs on seven games each went to Jack Woulfe and Mick Robinson, Peggy Lynch and Partner, Moss Kearney and Paddy Sheehy, Anthony McMahon and Carmel Mullins.Table prizes went to John Mulvihill and Vinny Wrenn, Irene and Peter Donovan. NEW YOUTH CLUB FOR SHANAGOLDEN

Parents and young people aged 12-15 interested in establishing a youth club in Shanagolden are asked to attend an information evening in the Community Hall, Shanagolden on Wednesday, October 14 at 8pm. Contact Irene on 069-66298.

RETIREMENT FUNCTION
A large gathering of the community attended the retirement function of Joe Ryan from his post as principal from Shanagolden National School last Saturday night. On the night there were a number of presentations made by different local groups to Joe in appreciation of his community effort over the years, not just alone on his retirement as principal but also his contribution to the parish. The community would like to wish Joe and his family, a happy and healthy retirement.

OLD-TIME DANCIN
Old-Time Dancing will be held once a month at Foynes Museum. The first date will be Saturday, October 17 with music by Mountain road, beginning at 10pm. Admission is €8 or €15 per couple.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulation to Therese Fitzgerald, Clashganiff and John Hanlon, Shanid Gardens, Shanagolden who got married on Saturday, October 3 in St Senan’s Church, Shanagolden. Couple. Best fo luck to the happy couple.

WOMENS CHOIR
The local community womens choir Allude are welcoming new members to join the choir in the Foynes Flying Boat Museum every Tuesday from 7.30-9pm. No experience is needed just a desire to sing in a group for fun and enjoyment. This initiative is funded by Limerick County Council Arts Office. Contact Joan McKernan on 061-496000.

ST.SENAN’S SOCIAL SERVICES
The Monday night exercises have resumed in the Community Centre, Foynes at 8pm. The Tuesday drop in centre has also resumed at 2pm every week where participants will have the usual bingo, chat, craic and a cup of tea.

2 DAY INTENSIVE JOB SEEKERS PROGRAMME
West Limerick Resources is offering 2 Free Day Intensive Job Seekers Programmes in Shanagolden on October 28 & 29. The course will cover all aspects of job-seeking skills and is open to long term and short term unemployed people. EXERCISE CLASSES IN SHANAGOLDEN

OLDER PEOPLES NETWORK
West Limerick Resources aim to establish a network for older peoples group to help the company’s strategy in relation to further iniatives in the area. The first meeting will take place in NCW on Thursday, October 22 fomoo 2.30-4.40pm.To register contact Susanne on 069-79114.

CONTRIBUTION TO SPORTS AWARD
This award aims to honor a volunteer member of a County Limerick based sports or community group who has made an exceptional contribution to sport at local level. SHANID COMHALTAS GROUP
The group have resumed music classes on Thursdays at Shangolden Hall, from 7-9pm. All musicians and new beginners welcome. The classes cater for all age groups.

MILLENIUM PARTNERSHIP FUND FOR THE DISADVANTAGED
This fund provides small scale grants for students who are in further or third level education. Eligible expenses include support for fees, books, travel, childcare assistance, rent, or other necessary resources. Funding is available for the period up to June 2010. SAGGART CONCERT
Saggart, one of the most unusual and popular music acts to play the Mid West music scene in the 1990’s will be in concert at the University Concert Hall, Limerick on Friday, October 16 at 8pm. Proceeds from the concert will go towards the work of Fr. David Costello and Fr. Derek Leonard, two priests from the diocese of Limerick working on the mission in Lima, Peru. Tickets are available from University Concert Hall, Limerick Tourist Office, Arthur’s Quay, Collins & Co., Market Yard NCW, Limerick Diocese Pastoral Centre, Denmark St., Limerick and St. John’s Cathedral Limerick.

FASHION SHOW
The Gala West Limerick Fashion Show in aid of Invalid Section of the Diocese Pilgrimage took place at the Devon Inn, Templeglantine recently and was very well attended. The organizers expressed thanks to all who participated and who were involved.

COIS SIONNA CREDIT UNION – CU FACTOR

Foynes Youth Club resumes every Friday from 8-10pm. We look forward to seeing you all again and welcome all new members.

ST.SENAN’S GAA CLUB
St. Senan’s GAA Club are holding last a fundraising buster draw at Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday, October 17. Prize money is €500 and each ticket costs €10 and are available from members.

LIMERICK TEAMS OF THE 25 YEARS
The Limerick County Boards are asking it’s supporters to pick the best hurling and football team of the last 25years. They are offering two tickets to this gala evening with over night stay in the Strand Hotel. The club is proud to have 2 nominees in Conor Mullane at left half back and Ian Ryan at centre forward. We urge everyone to vote for these players as much as possible.
The club would like to congratulate limerick Ladies Football Team who were unlucky in their bid for All-Ireland glory. However they did themselves and their county proud. Well done to all involved.

DAY TRIP
We will have a day trip to Clonmacnoise and Tullaghmore Irish Dew Whiskey Heritage Centre on Sunday, October 25. A bus will leave Courtney Lodge Hotel at 8.30am. On the first step we will have a full Irish breakfast and on the homeward journey we will be stopping for a 4 course meal. We have a couple of seats available so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. To confirm booking we will be collecting payment on or before Friday, October 16 in the Parish Pastoral Centre from 10.30am to noon. Contact Maureen on 087-9845102.

BADMINTON
Badminton takes place every Monday and Wednesdays in Foynes Community Centre from 8-10pm. Adults €4, Over 15’s €2. We will be registering our league teams very soon so if you would like to play with us do come and practice. Contact Anne on 061-398063.

KARATE
Karate classes take place in Foynes Community Centre every Thursday from 7-8pm.

ESTUARY RUGBY CLUB
Estuary Rugby Club is up and running for the new season and new underage players are welcome to join. Please attend sports field, Shanagolden on Sundays at 10.30am.
The club are holding a club development draw for the next six months to raise much needed funds with a great selection of prizes for winners.

FOYNES & DISTRICT SEARCH AND RESCUE UNIT
Foynes and District Search and Rescue Unit is currently looking for volunteers to join and help with the setting up of the newly formed club. The club is hoping to gather names of people willing to train and become volunteers for the unit. NEWS FROM SALESIAN SECONDARY COLLEGE
Evening Courses in Traditional Music have commenced in the college on Monday evenings. Choristers also meet to hone their vocal skills and if life savers are interested you will also find tuition in the college pool. Contact school secretary at 061-393105.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS
The Glorach Theatre will be the venue for a new programme of classes in piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, concert flute, traditional flute, tin whistle, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, drum kit, guitar, ballet, modern dance and music theatre being offered by Kerry School of Music. Childline is a telephone listening service for young people and is currently recruiting volunteers to answer calls. What Childline really needs are people who have genuine commitment to supporting children and young peoplewho can listen with warmth, patience and an open mind. PARENT & TODDLER GROUP
The Parent and Toddler Group continues to meet every Tuesday and Thursdays in the Desmond Complex from 10.30am to 12.30pm during term time. Price €2 per family, including refreshments.
